Community Lutheran Council Meeting – Suomi
April 9, 2014

Members Present: Wayne Pleaugh, Pastor Doug Norquist, Carol Pleaugh, Clyde Anderson, Jake Holappa, Mary Waara, Al Rautio
Members Absent: none
President Wayne Pleaugh called the meeting to order at 7:50 PM after the evening Lenten Worship Service.
A motion by Jake, second by Mary, to accept the agenda with additions, carried.
Devotions - we did not have devotions being we just came from worship.
Pastor’s Report: A motion by Carol, second by Clyde to accept the Pastor’s report for March, carried.
Correspondence – a letter from the Northern Great Lakes Synod to support our seminarians seeking to serve Jesus Christ as pastors of this church. We will receive an offering to support this work……”Answer the Call Sunday” will be May 11th .
The Treasurer’s Report – a motion by Mary, second by Al to accept the treasurer’s report for March, carried.
The Secretary’s Report – A motion by Jake, second by Clyde, to accept the printed minutes for March, carried.
Committee Reports:
Social Ministry:
Mary reports that they plan on having Easter Fun at Marigold Bingo in April.
Worship & Music:
The introduction of the new liturgy setting during the season of Lent has gone well. Pastor Doug is the

composer of this Setting II  - Reclaim Lutheran Hymnal – The Service with Holy Communion.  Joan and Carol request that we use it longer. Pastor agrees….. till Pentecost.
We’ve enjoyed all the special music by our choir. Thank you !
 We Thank all the musicians of the “Glory, Glory Band”…..Rod Etelamaki, George Hart Waara, Jessica and Brittany Mauldin, Dustin Taylor, Joan Tuoriniemi, and Pastor Doug. Thank you Pastor Doug for bringing them together.
Old Business: 
Clyde reports that he talked with the architect – they have a proposed model ready and will meet with the council in the near future.
New Business:
Congregational members have been interested in the new hard cover/large print bibles that were purchased recently and asked if more could be ordered/purchased. Pastor has been taking orders will be ordering more. Pastor would like to do some basic/looking at bible classes…”How to Use Your Bible” …… open to all ages. More information to follow.
Carol and Wayne will meet with accountant, Mary Luttinen, the beginning part of May to begin work on the new budget. The congregational meeting is scheduled for June 8th  following morning worship.
Spring grounds cleanup will be announced……depending on our weather….our snow ?
Next meeting will be Wednesday, May 21st  - 7 PM  in Palmer.

COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING
January 15, 2014

President Wayne Pleaugh called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
A motion by Clyde, second by Al, to accept the agenda with additions, carried.
Pastor read devotions from January 15, 2014 “Prayfaithfully” daily devotions (One of the daily devotions he wrote for the Synod newsletter web page).
Pastor’s Report: A motion by Mary, second by Clyde to accept the Pastor’s report for December, carried.
Correspondence 
·         Information from Larry Westerfield on an Endowment Meeting held January 22, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran – Ishpeming.
·         Update on a deposit to bank from Thrivent (Foundation member - Choice Double Direction Church Campaign).
·         Letter from Lagron Miller Co. on upcoming palms for Palm Sunday.
·         Letter of mission support from Rev. John Lunn (missions in Tanzania).
The Treasurer’s Report – report was not available – tabled till next month.

Committee Reports
Church Property:
·         Pastor reports that he had trouble with the parsonage garage door – Thank you ….. Don Harju for fixing it.
·         Pastor reports that the back steps of the parsonage have been crumbling. Also, he’s had ice on the top of the steps…… then realized that when the roof was replaced…..gutters were not replaced. We will look into both issues.
Social Ministry:
Mary reports the Waara family had a New Year’s Bingo Party at Marigold AFC. They played about ten games of bingo and had a little bubbly/sparkling juice to welcoming in the New Year. Enjoyed by all.  A Thank you Waara family!
Worship & Music:
We thank Joan/choir for sharing their special music for Advent/Christmas. Thank you, Mike Wickstrom for sharing your gift of song.
Thank you Pastor for pulling together again, the “Glory, Glory Band” on December 29th. It was a great/fun worship service.  Thank you to the instrumentalists Rod Etelamaki(banjo), George Hart-Waara(cello), Jessica Mauldin(violin), Brittany Mauldin(violin), Shirley Norquist(recorder), Dustin Taylor(mandolin), Joan Tuoriniemi(piano) and Pastor Doug (guitar).
Old Business:
The new NIV hard cover/large print bibles have come in. The women of ELCA reported.. they used them for their recent meeting…. they liked the large print and was easy to understand.
New Business:
·         Lent/Easter services: will take place in Suomi
·         Ash Wednesday – March 5th – 7 PM Coffee & fellowship will follow.
·         Midweek Lenten Worship – Soup Supper - 6 PM. Worship - 7 PM.  There will no coffee following Soup Supper evenings.
·         Maundy Thursday, April 17th  - 7 PM. No coffee 
·         Good Friday, April 18th  – 7 PM.  No coffee
·         Easter Sunday – 9 AM Breakfast.   Worship 10 AM
Discussion on updating the old church record books to the new book. A motion by Mary, second by Wayne to give additional compensation to Shirley to update record book, carried.

Next meeting will be Wednesday, February 12th  - 7 PM  in Palmer
A motion by Mary, second by Clyde to adjourn the meeting, 8:00 PM

President Wayne Pleaugh called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM
A motion was made by Jake, Seconded by Clyde, to accept the agenda with additions.  Motion carried.
Pastor led devotions from James 5:7-8 – “Be patient therefore, brothers, until the Lord Comes:
Pastor’s Report:  A motion b y Wayne, seconded by Clyde to accept the Pastor’s report for November.  Motion carried.

Correspondence:
·        A letter of support from Pastor Ken Lahners – at the last conference meeting, it was decided to continue sponsoring missionary Rev. John Lunn (ELCA Global Mission).  A motion by Clyde, seconded by Al of support to send $50.  Motion carried.
·        Information on a study guide (Roger Wilder) available – Social Statement Justice:  Hear the Cries.

The Treasurer’s Report – A motion by Mary, seconded by Jake to accept the report for November.  Motion carried.
The Secretary’s Report – A few lines were transposed.  A motion by Jake, seconded by Al to accept the corrected printed minutes for November.  Motion Carried.

Social Ministry:
·        Carol will be sending Christmas cards out
·        Mary reports that the Waara family continues with bingo into the new year at Marigold AFC
Worship and Music:
·        We thank Joan and the choir for sharing their special music for Advent
Old Business:
·        The bibles we have now are coming apart and they are different versions.  It would be nice to have all uniform.  Pastor reported back on a variety of bibles and prices that are available.  A motion by Jake, seconded by Al to purchase 12 NIV Bibles.  The approximate cost of $120 would come out of the memorial fund.  Motion carried.
New Business:
